ENROLLMENT

The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, EFTPS, is a service provided FREE by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to help taxpayers make tax payments on time electronically via the Internet or Phone 24/7.  With EFTPS a payment can be scheduled in advance (up to 120 days) to insure payment on or before the due date.

Internal Revenue Service's goal is to have all taxpayers who regularly make tax payments enrolled in the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System.  This includes businesses paying payroll taxes or corporate taxes.  It also includes individuals who make 1040ES tax payments.  By paying taxes via EFTPS using either a telephone or internet, it eliminates the need for using Form 8109-B coupons and taking the payment and coupon to your bank.
